A WARRIORS SONNET

Stone and club had more often than not sent

Brain and gore scattering out randomly

Long before man his so short life had spent

Spilling blood and entrails on stormy sea

From sinking ship on to contested ground

Did carnage continue with sword in strife

Spear and shaft on different lands were found

To drain from heart and throat red floods of life

Many times were caused by powder and ball

‘Round our globe both man and nation to die

Plane and missile with fear and dread let fall

Death and destruction from a dismal sky

Peace and calm will ever be viewed afar

While you and I still crave this taste of war
